These terms are an agreement between you and the volunteers who operate longlivetheoutlands.org ("the site", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the site, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
1. What this site is
The site is an independent, unofficial resource for people who take part in the Society for Creative Anachronism in and around the Kingdom of the Outlands. It offers an event calendar and tools for coordinating camps and travel.
We are not affiliated with the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. or the Kingdom of the Outlands. Nothing on the site is an official communication of either. Please read the disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account. If you are under 18, please have a parent or guardian read these terms with you.
- You must give a working email address and confirm it. We use it to verify your account, to reset your password, and to tell you about things you have signed up for.
- One account per person. Do not create an account for anyone else, or impersonate anyone — including any SCA officer, peer, or royalty.
- Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think your account has been compromised.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account.
You may close your account at any time from your account settings. See section 9.
3. What you post
You keep ownership of what you post. By posting it, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store it and display it on the site so that the site can work. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation.
You agree not to post:
- anything unlawful, threatening, harassing, hateful, or defamatory;
- anyone else's personal information without their consent — including photographs, modern names, addresses, or phone numbers;
- material that infringes somebody's copyright or trade mark, including text copied from official SCA or Kingdom publications; summarise and link instead;
- anything presented as an official SCA or Kingdom announcement;
- commercial advertising or spam;
- deliberately false event information.
We may remove content and suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the code of conduct. Where we can, we will tell you why.
4. Event listings
Event listings are contributed by members. We do not verify them. They are not official and may be wrong. Confirm details with the event steward or the official listing before you travel or pay anything.
We take no payments of any kind. Site fees, feast fees, and anything else are paid to the event directly, under whatever arrangements that event has made.
5. Camps, carpools, and meeting other members
The site lets members publish offers and requests — a seat in a car, a space in a camp. Any arrangement that follows is between those members alone.
- We are not a party to it and take no part in it.
- We do not vet members, run background checks, verify identity, check driving licences or insurance, or inspect vehicles or campsites.
- We do not guarantee that anyone will turn up, drive safely, or behave well.
- Travelling and camping carry real risks, and you accept those risks yourself.
Please use ordinary caution. Tell somebody your plans. Arrange to meet somewhere public the first time. If something feels wrong, walk away — and tell us if a member's conduct on this site warrants it.
6. Keeping the site available
The site is run by volunteers in their own time, free of charge. We make no promise that it will be available, that it will keep working, or that it will continue to exist. We may change it, take parts of it away, or shut it down. If we shut it down, we will try to give notice and a way to export your data first.
7. No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that information on the site is accurate, complete, or current.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, neither we nor any volunteer who helps run the site will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profit, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the site.
In particular, and to the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any injury, loss, damage, or dispute arising from an arrangement between members — a shared ride, a shared camp, or any other meeting — or from information about an event that turned out to be wrong.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to one hundred United States dollars (US$100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Ending your use of the site
You may close your account at any time from your account settings. Closing it starts an erasure of your personal data; see the privacy policy for exactly what is deleted, what is kept, and why.
We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we are required to, or if we stop running the site.
10. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. Each version carries a version number and an effective date. If we make a material change, we will ask you to accept the new version the next time you sign in, and we will keep a record of that acceptance. Carrying on using the site after a change means you accept it.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing in this section takes away any right you have under the mandatory consumer-protection law of the country you live in.
