This code covers behaviour on this website. It is ours, not the Kingdom's. It is not the SCA's harassment policy, it does not replace it, and a decision made here has no standing anywhere else in the Society.
If something happens at an event, or involves an SCA member in an SCA context, that belongs with the Kingdom Seneschal or the SCA's own reporting process — not with us. We can only decide who gets to use this website.
What we expect
- Be courteous. Courtesy is the point of the Society; carry it over here.
- Assume good faith. Most friction is a misunderstanding.
- Respect how people present themselves — their society name, their pronouns, their persona.
- Keep other people's information to yourself. Do not post someone's modern name, address, phone number, employer, or photograph without their agreement.
- Be straight about events. If you are not sure of a detail, say so, or link the official listing.
- Follow through on arrangements, or tell people promptly when you cannot. Somebody may be relying on your spare seat.
What is not acceptable
- Harassment, intimidation, or threats of any kind.
- Slurs or demeaning remarks about race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or body.
- Deliberately misgendering someone, or repeatedly using a name they have asked you not to use.
- Unwanted sexual attention, and sexual content in profiles, event listings, or camp descriptions.
- Publishing private information about someone without their consent.
- Impersonating another member, an officer, a peer, or royalty.
- Using the carpool or camp tools to find or approach someone who has asked to be left alone.
- Posting deliberately false event information.
Reporting
Email conduct@longlivetheoutlands.org. Tell us what happened, where on the site, and who was involved. Screenshots help.
We will acknowledge within 3 days and tell you the outcome when there is one. We will not share your identity with the person reported without asking you first, though we recognise that sometimes the nature of a report makes it obvious.
If anyone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first. We are a handful of volunteers with a website; we are not able to help with an emergency.
What we can do about it
Depending on what happened, we may do nothing, give a private warning, remove content, restrict an account, or close an account permanently. We will tell the person what rule they broke and give them a chance to respond, except where doing so would put somebody at risk.
To be clear about the limits: we can take away access to this website, and that is all. We cannot bar anyone from an event, from a branch, or from the Society. Only the SCA can do that, through its own process.
Appeals
If you think we got it wrong, reply to the decision and say why. A different volunteer from the one who made the decision will look at it again.
